Our Ukrainian Adoption Blog
The Journey for Our Forever Child

Wednesday's Outing

posted Wednesday, 22 June 2005

Today we decided to go somewhere to eat dinner.  We didn't have anything left in the apartment, so it was either go to the grocery store, or go get some restaurant food.  Restaurant food won.  However, it didn't come easily.  We called a couple from New Jersey (Mazzaferros) that had just finished their journey.  They are headed home tomorrow.  They were up for a little American companionship and a bite to eat.  We started walking towards thier end of town.   We finally found each other after a few cell phone calls back and forth, since neither of us really knew the neighborhood.  We walked down near the center of town to grab some food at the same place that Vitaly took us on Sunday.  It's right across the street from TGIFriday's.  It's a Ukrainian place that serves food almost buffet style.  You just point to what you want, they put it on a plate, then you go pay for what you have.  I tried a couple things that I had no idea what they were, but they were all good.

When we went to leave, we were offered some DVDs to borrow to pass some of the time along.  We have a bunch of movies, but really were looking for something more brain-dead... like sit-coms.  The Mazzaferros offered their "Everybody Loves Raymond" DVD set.  Exactly what we needed.  I have watched all 6+ hours of COPS that I had recorded on my little digital recorder twice already, ready for something else.

Well, after 7+ hours of wandering the streets of Kyiv, we were finally back to the apartment.  Kendra is washing our clothes by hand in the bathtub as I write this.  She has a new appreciation for powered washer and dryers already!  I also have a new appreciation for a CAR!

The newest Ukrainian Angel, Anthony Mazzaferro:                 Here's where we had dinner tonight:

We're so glad you found the "Ukrainian Cafeteria!" I was trying to figure out how to direct you there. It was our favorite place. A lot of good, hot food, cheap. This needs to be on everybody's list of restaurants. "2 Ducks" restaurants is a chain of cafeterias which are good too. You can recognize it by the 2 ducks on the sign. PS: TGIFriday's steak really hit the spot one night. American pricing, but worth a visit.
