This morning we were picked up by Vitaly, our "tour guide" for the day. We went downtown Kyiv to see Independence Square, a bunch of very ornate churches, the military museum, and finally lunch.
Lunch was a small restaurant in Kyiv. While waiting in line, I noticed the guys behind us were speaking very clearly American english. I asked the guy where he was from... "Michigan"... So, I asked where... "Grand Ledge". Strange to be 6000 miles from home, and talk to someone 50 miles from home! He was her on vacation, with a guy from Austrailia.
It was surprisingly comfortable to walk around in town. We purchased a sim-sim card to recharge the cell phone, and a svitonline card for internet access. Then Vitaly took us all over town to check out Kyiv. We took a bunch of pictures (hopefully I can download them later) and bought a few small souviniers, including a couple Tak! shirts. Yes, they are bright orange, for the "Orange Revolution".
We found out today, that today is "Green Day". Not sure what the significance is, but it's definately a Holiday. I'm guessing this is what the NAC is taking tomorrow off for. Kind of ironic that it's "Green Day" and we are the Green's!
More later!
