Dinner at the apartment

posted Thursday, 23 June 2005

Today we decided to eat in the apartment, but we didn't have any food here.  So we took a stroll down to the local grocery store to see what we could get.  I wanted to try something from the deli counter.  Didn't have a clue what it was, but I just pointed and asked for two.  They were a breaded ball.  Kind of looked like a chicken Kiev, but round.  I also ordered a container of cooked potatoes.

We got back to the apartment and warmed the potatoes in a frying pan with a bit of water.  A microwave would be really nice.  The balls were some kind of meatball.  Not sure what, but spiced a bit like a sausage.  Really good.  Wish I could find out what they were.  If you know what it is, please let us know.  The packaging said  Крокети м"ясні з шампіньи.  We also had a couple cups of hot tea.  For those of you who know me, I did find sugar, a staple of my life.

Our entire grocery trip:  The meatballs, potatoes, another box of raspberry oatmeal, 2 bottles of soda, a box of fruit juice, loaf of bread, box of sugar cubes, and a new toothbrush... grand total of $11.00 US.  Can't beat the prices of some stuff here.

Here's our fine meal that we had today:

Other than that, we are just being fairly boring today.  We are recovering a bit from walking all over the city yesterday.  We should find out tonight after 6PM when our appointment is for tomorrow (that's coming real soon, as it's 5:45 local here now!).

Your packaging reads Croquets (not sure about the middle word) and clear champagne. Not sure what to make of that :)

When my wife and I were there 5 years ago, we were told the food would be awful; however, we found it to be delightful. The corner cafes were wonderful. If you have an opportunity, try some green borscht, it is not as heavy as traditional borscht. Congratulation on Dasha. Our 2 Ukrainian angels have brightened our lives, and yours will do the same for you.
